Programming Announced for August 26 and 27th

The third quarter screening event of the 2022 Florida Surf Film Festival is quickly approaching, and we’ve got a couple of special nights of movies lined up.

Friday, August 26th, will kick off with Florida’s own Luke Kothera and his latest work, Sultan Rhythm, featuring some of the smoothest sliders from central and north Florida to ever grace a proper single fin log.  Luke will be in attendance with a St. Augustine crew in tow which perfectly precedes the highly anticipated, The Yin and Yang of Gerry Lopez by Stacy Peralta.   The father of Pipeline shares his story from his youthful transition from surfing to yoga and more. It’s visually stunning and carries the exuberance of Stacy Peralta’s practiced story-telling with interviews of Gerry’s contemporaries and the man himself.  We are in discussion with Stacy to get him here to the film for a Q & A.

Saturday, August 27th, will feature short films RAW and Drew Miller’s, Surf Movie, a nuanced story touching on inspiration and the journey.  Ben Weiland’s newest feature Island X will close out the first time slot of the night following the tragedy of cinematographer, Mark McInnis, who after losing his life’s work in a house fire, rediscovers the magic of film and photography alongside an all-star cast of surfers on the mysterious Island X. Ben will be in attendance for a Q & A after his film screens.

Saturday night will close out in glorious fashion with Floridian Lauren Hill’s latest short, The Physics of Nose Riding, and Lauren, along with her partner, Dave Rastovich, and baby, Minnow, will be attending to present the film and answer questions.  We will wrap the weekend with FSFF veteran and award-winning filmmaker, Ben Gulliver, and his biographical documentary about New York hell-man, Balaram Stack, titled Hail Mary.  Ben and Balaram are planning to attend what is sure to be an epic weekend of films and community connection.
