The Florida Surf Film Festival hosted their first Quarterly Screening Night Friday, Feb 6th, in New Smyrna Beach.  The East Coast premiere of Kai Neville’s new film Cluster was much anticipated, and it did not disappoint.  As the crowds arrived at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, they were greeted by Clancy’s Cantina for some pre-movie grub and our smiling barkeep, Kristen, who kept everyone supplied with Cigar City Invasion Pale Ale, rum and cokes, margaritas and sodas for the groms.

Moviegoers were treated to a table full of free swag thanks to Golden at Red Dog Surf Shop and Festival sponsors, Stance, Nixon, and Creatures of Leisure.

The night kicked off with short films from Ian Durkin and Dane Reynolds latest short, Loaded, followed by Red Bull Media House’s Days of My Youth.  Following intermission and raffling off more free stuff, Tropical Abduction by Gabriel Novis preceded the feature of the night, Cluster.  The unparalleled display of surfing wizardry that is a Kai Neville flick was truly something to behold on the big screen, and Cluster raised the bar yet again with huge performances by Dane Reynolds, Craig Anderson, and Noa Dean.  The technical airs of Creed McTaggert, set to David Bowie and the absolute destruction of Macaronis by Mitch Coleburn set to Devo were, as Volcom’s Dane Jeffrey put it, face-melters.

Following the movie, more free stuff was raffled, including a HaydenShapes Hypto Krypto, that had everybody drooling.  In the end, everyone went home stoked with a little free stuff under their arm and a head full surfing fantasies. Thanks again to Kai Neville and What Youth for making an amazing film; look for it out on DVD and iTunes in March.
